Southern Style on NS 45M and a new leader on NS 49A
45M is shot at PT 216 at Union Furnace and at PT 225, which now no longer is a private crossing, so trains no longer blow their horns here. 45M originally only had an SD70Ace for power, which died around Newport, so 49A which is seen here, gave one of their trailing engines to the 45M to get it to Altoona. Although both trailing engines were facing east, so a long hood forward trip was going to happen. 49A has a Brand new AC44 rebuild 4829 leading the way. 6/28/2024

Some unusual shots on the CSX Magnolia Cutoff

Decided to upload this video since there is a derailment on the Cutoff and things have ground to a halt. Randolph Tunnel, Stuart Tunnel and Graham Tunnel along with Kessler Bridge are seen from the air. Enjoy, since this is all drone video, there is no sound. 2/3/2024

Having only visited the Cutoff one other time to shoot the I016 with 1827 leading, and before that was in 2014. I returned with a friend and visited some spots I have either never seen before or wanted to see again. Magnolia, and both sides of Randolph Tunnel are seen. First train to start off is P030, with a P42 leading 3 Siemens Chargers, the last two being brand spanking new. Following close behind is the I136 which was very short which was surprising. The Highline runs between Fort Hill and Confluence PA. A fast but steep route used mainly by Westbounds, but also by Amtrak as it's a lot quicker. Action seen at the not often seen Brook Tunnel and Ursina with Amtrak 30, an Aberdeen Carolina and Western Private Car seen on Amtrak, The President of the Railroads Private Dome car! Remember AC&W bought 2 of the NS F Units back in 2019-20. 10/11/2023

Seen at Jeanette PA nearing CP Rade, and then seen again slowly moving through SO Interlocking at South Fork PA. Where it meets the 25T. First time I have seen both engines on the Safety Train. I've seen the 5642 when it first took the train east to Enola in 2016. So it's been many years. 10/13/2023

This is filmed right at MP 391 on the CPKC River Sub. The bridge over the Mississippi River is seen in the background of most shots. Note the searchlight signals still doing their job after many years. Check out the lashup on the first train. Very unique for sure! 9/9/2023

Since my last visit in late March 2023, CP and KCS merged to become CPKC. Although the railroad looks pretty much the same, I visited the different locations this time to differ up the scenery. This featuring plenty of runbys and static displays at many spots, including the famous Cedar Bend Drawbridge and others. Under partly cloudy/mostly sunny weather. This was a last minutes event due to problems during the first day and also cause of foul weather during the second day of the photo charter. On 9/11/23. GN 325 which is an EMD SDP40, made it's passenger debut out of Osceola WI to Dresser and back, due to an electrical issue, the engine was sidelined for the morning, but in the very early afternoon, the engine was back in working order again. Although the weather very pleasant. A good time was had by all.

With an IC painted SD40-3, leading a BLE Tunnelmotor and Widecab CN SD40-2W. The train is passing over I-35 and is struggling up the hill on this fine morning. 9/17/2023. The famous Duluth Aerial Bridge is seen from this location, visited by visitors regularly.

hey i drove my pickup truck on the low line back in 2006. is it possible to drive all the way to hancock or just orleans crossing? i was wanting to do this on my bicycle as i will be biketouring on the c&o canal nearby
You can drive the entire length from Orleans to Paw Paw with no issues. Although I did destroy my tire at the end of the trip.
For some reason watching this I get a really nostalgic feeling even tho I never got to experience this era of the Pittsburgh Line, nice stuff man.
I remember seeing this clip in a series you uploaded called "Insane Lashups". I'm wondering what happened to those videos, they provided a nice variety of lashups and I remember watching them back in 2015.

NS #1580 fired up in 2016. as of now its at Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum for restoration and repaint and its off to the Roanoke chapter of the NRHS.

Several years. And for a while, Track 2 used two different voices at the same time, although relayed one after another.

NS6677, why is it extremely rare to see foreign power leading a train on the Pittsburgh Line?
Because of cab signals. Although CSXs has engines that have the same type of cab signals that NS uses. So some of their power can lead on the line.

Yes, its about a 50 50 shot that its pure CSX power. There was an oil train, I think in January of last year that has pure CSX power. Cause the NS power was ripped off for some reason, so there was CSX around that had a good cab signal leader, so it led.

all gates removed. You can access every location.
that is good to know. I have rail fanned the cutoff since 1976. my favorite camp spot was Hansrote. as I recall the gates went up during the tunnel enlargements. one of the gates restricted access to the Kessler family cemetery which I think may be illegal. @@NS6677

Yes, other tunnels are done the same in some fashion. Done in 2013-14.
